Club Advert Remake and Evaluation



1) Who did you work with and how did you manage the task between you?
I worked with Natasha and Mia in this practical task. We all managed the task by setting individual roles. By assigning different roles to each one of us this created a more organised approach to the task so that we could complete it to the best standard. Natasha took on the job of filming as she has lots of experience in photography and filming. She handled this task very well and was able to carry out each shot confidently. Mia appeared in the advert, planned out scenes and bought many valuable ideas to our group. She also shared an editing job with us all. I starred in the advert and also acted as a director for each shot recruiting actors and setting out the scenes as well as organising the videos and doing the basic editing which Mia and Natasha took over to properly edit to the actual video. We were all happy with each others input and effort and worked well together.

2) How did you plan your sequence? What processes did you use?
To plan our sequence we screenshot every single shot and laid them out like a storyboard, writing about the camera shot/angles, setting and the length of each clip. 

3) What theorists do you think you could apply to your task?


4) What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
We had to take lots of things into account when planning, shooting and editing such as:

  • Audience
  • Camera angles
  • Timing
  • Setting
  • Actors
  • Lighting
  • Accuracy 


5) How successful was your sequence? Please identify what worked well and with hindsight 
what would you improve/do differently?
Our sequence was overall successful due to good team work and organisation. Also we all had very good work ethics and put lots of effort and time into it.

George Gerbner - Cultivation Theory

George Gerbner: Theorist - Audience

He stated that the longer you are exposed to ideas in the media the more likely the public are to believe it. This is also known as the 'drip drip theory' as it slowly changes peoples views over time. For example according to the theory people who frequently watch television, are more likely to be influenced by the messages from the world of television, the medias influence goes to such an extent that their world view and perceptions start reflecting what they repeatedly see and hear on television. Television is, therefore, considered to contribute independently to the way people perceive social reality.

 Cultivation Theory -
The idea that exposure to repeated patterns of representation over long periods of time can shape and influence the way in which people perceive the world round.

The idea that cultivation reinforces mainstream values (dominant ideologies)

  • The idea that the media can implant ideas in the mind of the audience directly.

The emotions portrayed in the left character are feelings of hopelessness and blandness and the person on the right looks concerned. The whole image coveys a serious emotion.

The feelings conveyed in this image are feelings of nervousness as they are looking carefully and are crouching down as if hiding and being on watch.

This image has a man looking strict and powerful as he has his hands on his hips and his head is held high. He looks proud whereas the soldiers look shy and intimidated as they have there heads lowered.

The positioning of the two characters in this image imply that they do not get on well. The distance between them could show some conflict between them and present the plot of the film which could be them two working out there differences or having major conflict with each other.

In the center of this image our attention is brought immediately to the ax wedged into the wood. This could tell the viewer that the main theme of the film is death and that there could be blood and gore.

Carys' practice footage



I like the use of different footage in my video as I put in different videos at different points to mix it up. I also used various songs also and faded the audio from James Bond into each other and faded various videos into each other. I sped up some videos to change the tempo and used some footage more than once to create a repetitiveness. To improve this video I would've liked to have added more different effects and possibly sound effects.

Genre Photos


This photo is inspired by the genre of horror. I have edited it to darken it and turn the colours cold bringing a spooky edge. I made sure that the light hit the main focus. I also made sure there were a lot of shadows to emphasize it is a dark film to set fear in the passing viewer.


This photo is inspired by family/kids as it shows a family in a stereo typical scenario. I used a light setting to appeal more to young people and lots of colours.
